The City Arts & Culture team has created a public art initiative where Calgarians can apply to get funding to hire local artists and create art in their neighbourhoods. I’m excited to announce that this opportunity is now available. Please feel free to share!

To inspire Calgarians and support local artists that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, The City is looking for ideas for community-run public art projects. $75,000 is being set aside to fund between 25 and up to 80 projects anywhere in the city. Each project can receive between $500 and $4500 to support the local creative economy in inspiring ways over the summer.

We’re inviting Calgarians to team up with artists at any level to explore any form of public art that:

  • ·       Uncovers little-known stories about the city or overlooked histories
  • ·       Focuses on justice, inclusion, and human dignity
  • ·       Fosters truth & reconciliation
  • ·       Explores stories of our community
  • ·       Brings beauty, joy, whimsy and hope

Calgarians and community groups should apply early as funding is limited and evaluations take place every two weeks until all funding is allocated. Applications will be received until September 30, 2020.

More information on the application process can be found at
