VP External / Planning Committee Update

Here is what has been happening in the past couple months:




Guidebook for Great Communities

This document has been in the work as long as our LAP/ARP. This is the document that works in conjunction with our LAP to form city development policy moving forward. The Guidebook has just been granted approval from Planning and Urban Development (PUD) to move forward to council for final approval. This document has varying levels of support from Community Associations, most leaning towards have some serious concerns about the document.

Historic East Calgary Local Area Plan (LAP)
Formerly known as the Inglewood/Ramsay Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP)

There is a new draft of the Historic East Calgary Communities Local Area Plan (also known as an Area Redevelopment Plan ready for engagement. This project has a long, complicated history that has yet to reach a point where we feel comfortable to support the document moving forward. This document is VERY IMPORTANT and will impact the future development and growth of Ramsay.

Historic East Calgary ARP :: Community Planning along the Green Line :: Engage
The City wants engagement on:

• comments on the formal name of the document
• future investment opportunities for community infrastructure
• final thoughts on the draft LAP
From Feb. 12 to 26, you can provide your input on these topics online If you find the engagement platform online limiting and have more to say about the document, please send me an email with additional thoughts and comments.
The City anticipates taking the LAP to Planning and Urban Development (PUD) before summer.


Green Line

From the City – “The City continues to work with the Province to support the provincial review of the Green Line LRT project. In order to provide the time needed to conclude these discussions, a decision was made in December 2020 to pause the procurement for segment 1. This pause does not impact the work that is currently underway including progressing enabling works to make way for segment 1 construction and functional planning for segment 2 (16 Avenue North to Inglewood/Ramsay).”

I have asked for an update on where the current station development is at, understanding that it might influence how we think of our LAP.

Snow Clearing
I noticed that the new path along 11 Street from 21st Ave to Crossroads wasn’t cleared. I don’t often travel that way, so if you notice an issue such as this please snap a photo, report to 311 and you are welcome to loop me into the issue so I can track it and follow up as required.


Truck Route Issues

We are currently working on an issue that involves Semi-Trucks using 8th Street and 24th Ave to exit and enter the community. We believe that this is not the correct route, considering the vehicles do not fit and are damaging property. We have reached out the businesses and will need to verify information with the correct authorities.





Windshield Survey

Calgarians for Heritage Districts is undertaking an independent audit of the heritage assets identified in the 2019-2020 Heritage Asset Windshield Survey conducted. A windshield survey is: “A visual survey of possible heritage assets in an area identified according to specific criteria of historic architecture and design. It’s called a windshield survey to give the idea that an area can be quickly surveyed through the windshield of a car. In practice, the survey is completed after properties are checked by walking the streetscape and scrutinizing individual properties.”

All homes in Ramsay 1945 and older have been photographed and I am currently in the process of cataloguing them for this project. This information will be used to help drive heritage policies. It will not impact you ability to change your property or demolish your home.

Turk Statue

It will take some time, but a Turk Statue is in serious discussions. It will also involve some community feedback and engagement to move forward. Updates will be provided as they become available.

In the meantime, Parks is running a Contest:
“To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the beloved Bench and Picnic Table Dedication Program one lucky Calgarian will win a custom bronze plaque on a dedication bench at Scotsman’s Hill for a special three-year term.”
