Update on the Green Line LRT

February 28th, 2017 by rca_admin No comments »

What’s going on with the Green Line?

The City proposes running the LRT tracks along 12 Ave and MacDonald Ave through Ramsay.

The RCA Board rejected this proposal last fall, but the City is proposing it again.

The community is pushing back.

Tell me more…

The Green Line LRT will come through Ramsay from downtown.

The original plan was to run the LRT along 10 Ave from downtown, following the CPR rail line into Ramsay. The community approved this option and all our planning was based on it.

Last fall, the City indicated that they were looking at new options through the Beltline:

The LRT could run along 12th Ave, then run north of the transit depot and follow the CPR rail line into Ramsay.

The LRT could run along 12th Ave, then run south of the transit depot and follow MacDonald Ave through Ramsay.

Neither of these options are good for Ramsay, and we prefer the orignal plan that we approved over a year ago.

I live in Ramsay. How does this affect me?

No way out

It’s already tough to get in and out of Ramsay by car, bike, or on foot. We’ve been trying to improve Ramsay’s connections to surrounding communities.

Now we risk becoming even more of an island.

At peak times, the train will run every 5 minutes. If you drive, ride your bike, or walk downtown, you could spend most of your time waiting at the tracks (just like at MacLeod and 25th).

Only one LRT station in Ramsay

There will be no additionasl LRT stations in Ramsay. The City is not open to discussing this.

The train will come through Ramsay, but you won’t be able to get on or off the train unless you walk all the way to the shared Ramsay/Inglewood station.

Surprise! Your home is now a trainfront property

Homes will be torn down to make room for the tracks, especiaslly since MacDonald Ave will need to be widened.

Bye bye green space and dog park

Green space is already scarce in Ramsay. We’ve been discussing how to maintain and increase our green space in the community.

Running the LRT along MacDonald Ave would cut through our existing green space west of Pop’s Dairy Bar.

What can I do?

Come to meetings and open houses.

Write a letter to the City and Ward 9 expressing your concerns.

Please help share the word about the proposed alignment and about the meetings, especially this community meeting.

City Meeting

  • Thursday March 2
  • 6:00 PM
  • The Commons – Hemmingway Room 1206 20 Ave SE

This presentation will be a preview of the update the Green Line team will provide to City Committee on March 15, which will include:

  • An overview of the City’s evaluation and how they arrived at the MacDonald Avenue SE option
  • An overview of the trade-offs of each option
  • An outline of the next steps in the evaluation and decision process

25 Avenue S.E. / LRT Grade Separation Study

February 26th, 2017 by rca_civicaffairs No comments »

The City of Calgary is conducting a functional planning study of 25 Avenue S.E. and the Red Line LRT tracks to the east of Macleod Trail. The study will develop a recommended grade separation plan for the Red Line LRT tracks and 25 Avenue S.E. The final recommended plan will improve travel through this area for people driving, walking, cycling and taking transit.
Currently no funding is available for the construction of the final recommended plan.

Please join The City of Calgary at an open house to learn more about the 25 Avenue S.E. / LRT Grade Separation Study. You will have the opportunity to share your experiences travelling through the study area, and ask the project team questions.

How can I participate in the study?

You can participate in a number of different ways:

  • Join us at our public open house (drop-in format)
    Date: Tuesday, February 28, 2017
    Time: 5 – 8 p.m.
Location: Repsol Sport Centre (formerly Talisman Centre), 2225 Macleod Trail S.E
